"Anne-Marie Cosgrove, holding down the fort for the formalists, also works with text as a system but with a different outcome. In "Love Backwards" (2007-2008), the artist obscures lines of text within painterly forms suggesting a personal narrative. The title indicates emotions off-kilter, love also as an unfamiliar system of sorts." - Jess Van Nostrand
